Frequently Asked Questions

What does my union do?

The SEA has many faucets. The most prevalent are negotiating salaries and insurance benefits. On the sidelines your SEA Executive Board works to conduct professional development, governmental relations, member rights, and many other behind the scenes activities for the membership.

Who belongs to the SEA?

Our membership includes classroom teachers, art, music, physical education specialists, content area specialists, special education teachers, Registered Nurses, and many other licensed educators eligible to be in our bargaining unit. We currently have a little over 280 members!

Who can help me if I have questions or concerns?

Each building in the Sartell-St. Stephen school district has a Member's Rights advocate that can answer many of your questions or concerns. Their names are posted at the top of our About Us section on this website otherwise you are welcome to reach out to any SEA Exec Board Officer listed.

Why should I join the SEA?

When you join the SEA you are also eligible for all membership benefits of Education Minnesota, the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO. All of these programs are designed to represent your needs as a professional educator. You also receive liability insurance as outlined in the Educators' Employment Insurance certificate of insurance. These are member-only programs. Education Minnesota also provides legal assistance for members in employment-related issues, such as grievance arbitration and terminations of continuing contract teachers.

I still have more questions...

That is okay...please contact your building Members Rights Advocate or one of the Officers and we will be glad to answer any questions you have in regards to joining the SEA, contractual questions, or any remaining questions you might have.
